On carbon, look for paint cracks that follow the fibre direction and for any soft or flexing spot when you press the tube; if you are spending real money, a paid inspection is cheap insurance. Confirm the frame size, the bottom bracket and headset standards, the rear axle spacing and the seatpost diameter, since a wrong standard makes the frame useless to you.
