Buying a second hand gravel bike

Every used gravel bike on Shift is sold directly by its owner - there is no dealer margin, listing is free, and Shift takes no commission.

As a rough guide, prices for used gravel bikes in the UK tend to fall somewhere between £650 and £1,900 depending on age, spec and condition - actual asking prices vary, so compare a few listings.

What to check before you buy

Gravel bikes take more abuse than road bikes, so check the same things - frame cracks, chain wear, brake pads - plus tyre clearance, which is the main reason people upgrade. Confirm the largest tyre the frame will take and whether the wheels are tubeless-ready. Look at the drivetrain for a 1x set-up if that is what you want, check the bottom bracket for creaks, and inspect the fork legs and chainstays for rub marks from mud and tyres that can wear through paint and into carbon.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to buy a second hand gravel bike on Shift?
Shift is a peer-to-peer marketplace: you buy directly from the seller. Messages stay on Shift, sellers can be verified, and we recommend viewing the gravel bike in person and paying on collection. See our Trust & Safety guidance before you buy.
How do I check a used bike isn't stolen?
Ask the seller for the frame number and check it against a national register such as BikeRegister before paying. A genuine seller will have no problem providing it, along with proof of purchase where they have it.
How do I sell my gravel bike?
Create a free listing on Shift with photos, price and location. Buyers near you will find it here and message you directly - there are no listing fees and no commission when it sells.
